Paper Sculpture Series II

This project is a continuation of earlier investigations into three-dimensionality, space, shape and composition but this time through the properties of painted polishing paper.

The unexpected qualities of this modest material offers unique and fascinating possibilities for experimentation and exploration.

The duality of the material is fascinating. It is strong but at the same time weak.

Modest and delightful as this material may be, the ephemerality of the finished piece is unavoidable. The paper is not made to last and will slowly wither away. This is both challenging and tempting midst the constant aim for longevity and preservation in both life and with artworks.

Working with this material has been an eye opening and reflective journey where time, sustainability and life's impermanence unexpectedly came to be the focus.
